Joe's Search Engine Marketing Tips
Introduction. MedLawPlus.com® currently generates 150,000 monthly unique visitors on a monthly marketing budget of $700. The vast majority of this traffic comes from the big four search engines, some of it free, some purchased. Friends and family often ask for tips on search engine marketing for their own web sites. It took me years of self-education to gain a level of proficency in this area. Why not share? Please keep in mind that I do not claim mastery of this subject and professional SEOers may disagree with points presented.

New Web Sites. If launching a new web site, please be patient as Google has a preference for older web sites. Some have called it the "sandbox"--i.e., a place Google parks new URLs while it gathers information on them and builds trust in the site. Getting links from older sites is a help in getting your site out of the sandbox. How long does it take? This is a gradual process that begins when Google first indexes your site. Expect to get substantially penalized by the Google ranking system for the first year or so.
