1: "Abdominoplasty" (aka "Tummy Tuck")
- Introduction: "A tummy tuck is useful if you have a large amount of excess abdominal skin, it is not a very good procedure if you have a large amount of abdominal fat. Usually, if your skin is in reasonable condition, liposuction is better for this purpose. There are a number of my patients who undergo liposuction, then continue with weight loss and finally, once their ideal weight is achieved, have their abdominoplasty or tummy tuck." 3: "Brow Lift"
- Introduction. "Indications for a brow (forehead) lift include visible signs of aging, such as deep forehead creases, hooding over the eyes, drooping eyebrows and frown lines above the nose and between the brows. The procedure involves mobilizing and redraping the skin to smooth the forehead, lift the upper eyelids and minimize frown lines. The brow lift is performed through small incisions in the hair above your forehead. The muscles between the eyebrows are partially removed which improves the frown wrinkles. The brows are elevated which improves the overall eye appearance, especially the lateral part of the eyelids where the heavy brow is most visible. An endoscope and special instruments are used during this procedure. It is critical to consider the brow whenever evaluating the upper lid area." Dr. Steven J. Ronan, M.D., Danville, CA.

4: "Collagen Injections"
- Introduction. "Collagen is a natural protein that provides structural support to soft tissue. It can be used to minimize many of the visible signs of aging by hiding the superficial wrinkles of the face. In addition, Collagen can be used to enlarge the lips. Collagen is injected into the skin beneath the affected area. It fills the fine wrinkles, which smooths the overlying skin. This results in a more youthful appearance. In the lips, the Collagen fills the soft tissue of the lips and can even turn the corners upward. Collagen injections may be repeated every 6 months to touch up and enhance the effects." 5: "Face Lift"
- Introduction. "Facelift typically elevates the cheeks, jowls, and neck and removes excess skin from the lower face and neck through incisions around the hairline and ear area and underneath the chin. Typically deeper layers including the muscles are tightened to help prevent recurrent drooping of facial tissue. Facelifts are rarely necessary before age 40 and are usually performed in men and women when they have sufficient laxity of tissue to justify the small but real risk of surgery. Sometimes a chemical peel can achieve some tightening of tissue and thus delay the time when facial laxity would only be corrected with a facelift. The neck, however, cannot be treated with a deep chemical peel due to potential complications, so this area is best treated with a facelift. On occasion, usually in men who do not object to a visible neck scar, excess neck skin can be removed directly. This scar is much more prominent and visible than the usual facelift scars. Facelifts usually last from 5-10 years although some patients with poor skin elasticity notice a recurrence of facial drooping sooner. Usually the second facelift is longer lasting." Susan E. Kolb, M.D., Atlanta, GA.

6: "Eyelid Surgery" (aka "Blepharoplasty")
- Introduction. "Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure to remove fat--usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes - features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. However, it won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Blepharoplasty can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or browlift." Dr. David E. Kim, M.D..

7: "Laser Skin Resurfacing"
- Introduction. "We now have a new laser technology that removes the outermost layer of the facial skin very selectively. When the new skin grows back, in 5 to 14 days, this skin is smoother and less likely to have such prominent surface irregularities. The areas that are most effectively treated with this technology are wrinkles, pigment irregularities and acne scars. Other blemishes such as raised moles, broken vessels and large pores are better treated with surgery, other laser technology or skin care programs utilizing Retin A and glycolic acid. Usually a skin care evaluation by the plastic surgeon can effectively identify which techniques are best to correct the problem areas that are of most concern to you. If laser resurfacing is recommended then often Retin A is applied to the facial skin each evening after removal of makeup for several weeks prior to treatment." Susan E. Kolb, M.D., Atlanta, GA.

8: "Liposuction"
- Introduction. "Liposuction surgery has now become the most commonly performed operation in Plastic Surgery. This procedure is used to improve your figure in either one specific area, or in several areas. Patients seeking liposuction for improvement of body contour have generally tried multiple diets and exercise programs, to no avail. Certain problem areas remain. It is important to realize that suction lipectomy is not a method of weight reduction in itself, as relatively little weight of fat is removed from the body when the surgery is performed safely. The procedure is designed specifically to improve body contour. Therefore, it is important for you to be at or close to your 'set point' weight." Tom J Pousti, M.D., San Diego, CA.

9: "Nose Contouring" (aka "Rhinoplasty")
- Introduction. "Rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose that greatly improves a person's appearance by correcting a wide or crooked nose, removing unwanted bumps and refining the nose shape. Rhinoplasty is one of the most exacting procedures in plastic surgery because very small changes can significantly alter the appearance. Careful evaluation, planning, and surgical precision are critically important. Overly operated noses appear unattractive and unnatural." Constantino G Mendieta, M.D., Miami, FL .
