Comment:
In May of 2008, my wife and I moved from Florida to Texas providing Directv our new address and phone number to have the service installed in our new home. With spring storms in Texas, we decided that directv was not the best option for our home. On June 8, 2008 we called Directv to cancel the service/installation and was told we had no other obligations /outstanding payments due at that time.
In May 2009, we started receiving collection calls that we finally was able to talk to someone stating that a balance of over $1000 was sent to this collection agency on behalf of Directv!!! Part of his amount was that I did not return their receiver which when was installed to replace my existing directv receiver (that I paid for) and THEY TOOK! The rest for for bills from June to August 2008 plus other fees etc. None of which added to the total they claimed I was due Directv.
I spent almost 2 months writing two letters and several phone calls to directv. I sent them the receiver back (as I wasn't using it anyway) and finally on June 16, 2009, I received a statement from Directv stating I owed nothing! Finally...I thought the saga was over....
On October 22, 2009, Directv turned the remaining balance (which No one can provide me a reconcilation of why it is due) to a second collection agency that started calling daily to collect more than $400. I spent over an hour on the phone with 3 different Directv departments and finally was told I needed to write and email to Account Management and that my discussion with him would also be turned over to Account Management. I then sent another email to Account Management.
Today, I get a response from Account management saying,
"Thanks for writing. I understand your concern regarding your bill.
Upon reviewing our records, I found that your account was already sent into collection. If you wish to dispute the charges or make a payment arrangement, please contact the collection agency that notified you of the remaining balance. However, if you haven't received any letter or call please send your disputes in writing to :
DIRECTV, Inc.
Attn: Collections Department
P.O. Box 6550
Greenwood Village, CO 80155-6550
THIS I have done already (twice) and was told by the new collection agency to go back to directv to get details for the balance owed.
What is a consumer to do!?!?
