OMG there are a LOT f complaints against this operation, and I'm beginning to see why! I've been a peoplepc. customer since 2004, and for the first 3 - 4 years, my experience has been OK. Aside from the long wait time to speak to a service or tech rep, and the extremely thick east Indian accents and rapid speech, my exp was OK.
However, over the past year and a half, I've become increasingly umhappy and frustrated with both the cust service and tech support departments! In the summer of 2008, my DSL modem stopped working. I called cust. service, and they said they'd send another one to me free of charge. (The modem was under a 1 yr warranty. I upgraded to DSL in Nov 2007.) They said it would take 2 -3 business days and OF COURSE, it was the weekend!
The following Tuesday or Wednesday, Fed Ex delivered a package and I was just about to sign for it, when I noticed the word WIFI, on both the list and the cardboard box. Well, that would have been fine, with the exception of one thing: I'VE NEVER had a wifi connection nor had I even discussed the idea with them!
I called C.S., spoke with a service rep, who sounded confused, so he transferred me. After about 20 min, I finally spoke with a rep who insisted I HAD WiFI and demanded I send the DSL modem back. I reminded him that I KNEW what type of connection I was using, and THAT I DIDN'T ACCECT THE DELVERY BECAUSE IT WAS THE WRONG UNIt! He became flustered and transferred me yet again--TO THE WRONG DEPARTMENT! The people at the wrong dept, finally figured out how to get me to sales/shipping. I explained, and at first, someone told me to hook up the wifi in that it would work just like DSL! I said "HORSE FEATHERS! LOOK HERE YOU F___G MORON, I'M A DSL CUSTOMER, and I WANT A DSL MODEM! WHAT PART OF THAT DON'T YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND"?
After much deliberation, someone over in the near east had brains enough to come in out of the rain and look up my acct info. LO and BEHOLD they discovered I was a DSL customer after all.
Two days later, I get an invoice email from peoplepc which included a charge on my account of $78.00---it was for the WiFi modem that I never accepted. I IMMEDIATELY was on the phone w/cust service. When the Wifi unit made its way back to it's point of origin, I finally convinced them to nullify that charge on my account.
Meanwhile, I was on the phone several hours a day for nearly a week, was without DSL nearly 2 weeks, and I pay about $50 per month for DSL service. They said they'd pro-rate my account for the 12 days I had no DSL but they never did. That was strike one but it should have been strike 3. Don't go away, I'll be back with strike 2 & 3 at a later time.
