Subject: fraudulent charges
Comment:
I have been a customer of Directv for 14 years. I decided to cancel as I just couldnt afford it any longer. When I tried to cancel they tried to tell me I had a 2 yr contract with them and I needed to pay $400. I mentioned I was way past the 2 yrs as I've been with them 14 yrs. The person told me that when they had to replace my old receiver because it wasn't functioning anymore that it started the contract over again. I mentioned that nobody told me any of this over the phone nor did I provide any written or verbal approval of this contract and this is the first I ever heard of it. I mentioned it was at the request of Directv to replace it not mine due to faulty/old equip. Then they told me there would be additional charges on top of the $400 but he wouldn't tell me exactly how much as they were going to automatically deduct it from my debit/credit card. When I asked to speak to a spvsr they put me on hold for 20 min I had to call back and after being yelled at by another cust svce rep who stated he was a supervisor and later I found out he wasn't I had to be transferred to another individual. I had been harassed for trying to cancel this service and even though they said that they will be sending the packaging for me to return the equipment back as of today I haven't received it. My next step is to send a registered letter and if I need to will contact the attorney general for TX re: Directv. I have checked through the web and the same thing that has happened to me has happened to many...many...many individuals throughout the states and I feel this company is not ethical.
