Folks, you all need to remember that, when you overdraft your checking account, whether by debit card or by writing a check when you don't have funds to cover the debit, the bank is granting you a short term loan that it does not have to advance to cover the items. The bank can also return the items at its discretion. Simply put, if you want to avoid fees, don't overdraft your account! Keep track of the balance with a register and you will know if that debit at McDonald's on your card is going to put your account into a negative. Or, sign up online and monitor your activity if you believe you might be getting close to zero. And, no, I do not work in the banking, or even the financial services, industry.
