Subject: watch out for the half day rental and charge
Comment:
I reserved a 17’truck on Monday, March 23, 2009, I made my reservations over the phone, and I was told that a sales person would be calling me to confirm the reservation. Not a problem there.
Upon getting that phone call, I asked the young man if the rental was for 24 hours, (same time in and the same time return) I was told that the rental would be only for only 8 hrs. I then proceeded to tell him that I wanted to get the truck the night prior to when it would be used, which would have been Thursday, March 26, just before closing to have the truck available for the movers at 7am on Friday morning. I was told the truck would need to be returned by noon on Friday, I accepted that and ended the conversation. Not too much of a problem there I thought!
I go and pick up the truck and saw that the truck I had reserved was not large enough to be able to make the noon deadline so I upgraded the truck size to the 24-26’ I again asked if the truck was for same time in as same time out as the return, I was told no and if I was late that there would be a $50.00 charge for being late. I accepted and received the larger truck rental along with the terms and extra money. Not real happy but I wanted to be able to comply with what was told to me.
On Friday, March 27 at 10:30a I realize that we needed more time so I called the 800 number and said that it looked like I was not going to make my noon deadline and asked what where my options the young man said let me see and called, the Camp Wisdom location, and when he returned to the phone he didn’t mention the late fee of $50.00, nor was I asked how much longer would I need the truck but instead I was told I could keep the truck and it would be the cost of another days rental, plus insurance and mileage. I agreed and the truck was returned about 3pm that same day.
On Saturday, March 28, I came and rented yet another truck, this time a smaller one and upon doing the paperwork I was asked did I need the truck for 24 hours. Wait, I said I thought you could only rent a truck for 8 hours! I was told that was not true and that the Regional Manager told them that the truck rentals were to be for 24hours and that George was not supposed to be charging people for only 8 hours. He proceeded to show me a typed note taped to the register where it stated that a regular days rental was for 24 hours. I still rented the truck but I was very unhappy because I feel like I was taken advantage of as a women. I don’t think it’s fair to ripped people off who are having difficulties with jobs and homes and money. This is total unacceptable!
