Comment:
My neighbor kindly rented a space for me at uhaul on Gandy Boulevard in Tampa, Florida in January of 2008. On March 5, I called to tell the manager that I would be moving out of state on the 11th. He already knew I was moving because I rented a trailer from him in November of 2007 to move some things to Georgia.
When I told him that I was leaving on the 11th, I was informed (for the first time) that I would have to pay for the entire month, despite the fact that my goods would only be there for 6 days. The manager was rude and condescending and basically told me that I had no choice. Nothing in their contract states that they will not pro-rate.
I called the Regional office to complain and received a call the next day from the same manager that I was having a problem with. I called the Regional office again and was told that I would have to deal with the same manager. I called corporate and was told that I had to deal with their Regional office.
Had they told me that I would have to pay for a full month, I would have made my moving plans based on that. Instead, the manager told me that I would still have to pay for the full month but that he would give me a "deal" on a truck.
Mind you, this is the same manager that rented me a truck the previous November for $130 more than I could have rented it at another dealer.
Not only are they liars and thieves, but someone should launch a class action against them. I paid the ransom of $169 for my goods. In five days I will move my things from their prison.
In the future, I would rather drag my stuff down the highway on a sled before I would EVER use U-Haul again!
But, I will not go quietly, I plan to report them to every agency possible and it they don't do the right thing, I will add them to my list of companies that suck eggs and let everyone I know what a crappy company they are!
