Subject: Billing Practices
Comment:
Since I moved from Houston Texas to Singer Island, Florida I repeatedly have been overbilled. For example, I was billed for a modem that I didn't have for 4 months. Unless you are prepared to spend hours on hold you are never able to speak to a representative. I finally got this resolved and then another overcharge on my account for some other back services I had already paid for. My wife spent hours on the phone last month trying to get these issues resolved until the payment date had passed and then AT&T called us to say the bill was overdue and that I would have to pay a reconnection fee of $30.00. This month Feb 2009, again I had been charged for service I had already paid for. This time I wanted to call to ask them to fix the bill way before it was due. Same story, during the day I was put on hold until I gave up. I called at 7.15 pm Easterm time to "The Billing Resources". I was told that Billing Resources is an agent that it not AT&T, and only handles discrepancies in collect call and they couldn't help me. I asked then why they listed on my AT&T telephone bill as The Billing Resource. They didn't know and said I would have to call, "Plans and Services".
I called Plans and Services and received a message that they were closed and that I had to call back during the working day. BACK TO SQUARE 1 - DURING THE WORKING DAY YOU REMAIN ON HOLD FOREVER!! AT&T has no respect for their customers time or their complaints. In fact they make it as difficult as possible to question your bill - presumably because they hope you'll give up and not contest it.
AT&T are exhibiting disgraceful business practices. AT&T's behavior is consistent with deliberately trying to steal from their customers by overestimating their bills, making it impossible to contest the bills and then hoping they won't pay so the customer will pay a reconnection fee. Too bad they have a monopoly on phone service in Florida.
