Subject: Think again before you go with Charter
Comment:
My wife and I moved to northern Wisconsin a year and half ago. Called charter to get cable and internet in our new house and had an appointment set up for the same day as the movers. We left to grab a quick lunch and passed the Tech as we turned on to our road. This was an hour before the start of our installation window, thought it was strange so I called. Had a 30 minute argument with the Customer Service rep as to what time the appointment was suppose to be at. They refused to have him come back and offered a credit. Stupid me, allowed them to set up a second appointment, which the Tech never showed up. Called Dish Network and set an appointment with them. Called Charter and set an appointment for the same day and time....needless to say Dish was almost done with the install before the guy showed up so we had the pleasure of telling him they just had strike 3 and turned him away.
Well now my lovely wife thought we could save some money by going with a Charter bundle and gave them a call. They quoted here $88.00 for all 3, cable, phone and internet. Sounded great. The phone guy showed up separately in the am to install the phone and then refused because we had the neighbor kid open the house. They won't install if the person at home is under 18, understandable, but they never informed us when we called the day before to confirm and told the rep we needed a call before so we could have "neighbor kid" open the house.
The cable and internet guy showed up in the afternoon and after speaking to me on the phone almost left without installing the cable because he didn't have anything to trench the cable with. (New House) Thankfully my parents were up visiting and my father gave him permission to hang the cable above the garage door until the could get it buried. Arrived home excited about checking out all the channels. Disappointed!!! We could watch for 10 minutes then it would cut out every 60 to 90 seconds. Called Charter and they had me reset the box. I told them that I was disappointed with the fact that the box looked beat up and after the reset it continued cutting out. She said she'd credit the account $20(never happened) and to go to the local office to get another box. Had to wait over the weekend with bad cable to get a box back home Monday night that wouldn't download my program package. Spent well over an hour on the phone again with Charter trying everything to get it to work. This only after the 3rd person. I was then told that maybe it was because I had an HD tv with out the HD package. I explained to the lady that my TV was an HD Monitor and that I really didn't need HD. She said she'd upgrade me for free and was noting my account so I could go back to the store and pick up an HD box. Excited once again, I stopped after work only to spend another 45 minutes at a counter arguing with a lady over what was promissed over the phone. She brought out a HD box and had me start filling out forms for the equipment and I asked to confirm that they were standing behind what was promised. By now the line was getting really long behind me, and then she said she couldn't give me the HD upgrade for free. I admit I lost my temper just a little bit and told her fine, give me a regular box and when I get home I'd be calling Dish to switch back. She looked suprised. I asked to verify what package I had, to find out they were charging $133 +tax and fees for the package my wife ordered at $88. I told her forget it that I would never do business with them and would be cancelling my service.
I arrived home to an irrate wife who had just opened our first Charter bill 3 business days after our install that never worked. $148+ with the install fee that she was told was waived. She spent over 2 hours on the phone with 5 different reps. Eventually they ate the bill and we are no longer a customer(15 August 08 to 20 August 08). They asked for another chance, my wife politely declined. I would have had some very choice words but she wouldn't let me talk. Go Satellite!! They wanted our business and proved it with a fantastic deal.
By the way, my father has Time Warner. HD with DVR lots of channels, fastest internet, unlimited nation wide long distance on 2 TVS and is paying $40 less including taxes and fees. What crap!
