Subject: Merck advertising settlement
Comment:
"Merck & Co. * * * agreed to pay $58 million to 29 states and the District of Columbia to settle claims that advertisements for the withdrawn painkiller Vioxx hid the drug's increased risks. The deal bars Merck from 'ghostwriting' self-promoting articles and studies, as well as using academic speakers with conflicts of interest at medical-education events, according to the states." Link. Why again do we even allow drug companies to advertise on television and radio?
