I am also having problems with Charter - to the tune of several hundred dollars! I owed them $44 in January due to credit I received for an area outage of nearly two weeks, so I had the Internet installed. I completely explained to the tech on the phone that I can install it myself - I used to work for Time-Warner Cable doing exactly that!!! - and he double-talked and spun me around so that, when the day came, I was sitting here, waiting for the delivery man. Imagine my surprise when the installation guy showed up at my door!
Well, in the end, he had to climb the pole to do some work for the services to work properly, so even if they hadn't hoodwinked me into a service call, there would have been one anyway - one they assured me "wouldn't be charged because it was [their] problem." Of course, they charged me. I ate that cost.
You can imagine my shock and disgust when I received a $248.00 bill for January!!! Having argued and wrestled with them for five months now, I thought it was finally handled until I received a bill for $210 this morning!
Every, single time I call, I get a different answer from a different, non-English-speaking tech with accents so heavy, I can hardly understand a word they're saying and no matter how many check numbers, credit card receipts, and confirmation numbers I produce, they keep double-talking, changing their lies, and "restating" things so that, in the end, I believe they truly believe they have convinced me that I owe them this money!
But I don't and I would love to join a class-action lawsuit against them. I have spent at least 20-30 hours fighting this - figuring, arguing, talking, waiting, driving - and have gotten nowhere!
