I wish to recommend that a Class Action Law Suit be brought against Uhaul. We have had three instances in the last 8 months. First one my daughter rented a small truck to pickup a sofa she had purchased, the truck should never been on the road we called Uhaul from the truck and were told there were no more available. So we proceeded on, we got to the parkway in our area where we had to drive at a higher rate of speed, the truck rattled and shook and the brakes were non-existent, I might add it was filthy inside the seats were so bad we used on the blankets we brought to cover the seat, there was trash in from the previous renter. When we finally made it back to the Uhaul dealer my daughter explained the situation and felt that some sort of adjustment should be made. Well of course the manager was not there and he would get back to her. Yep, you guessed it, she finally got tired of idle promises of phone calls to be returned and never were so she wrote a letter stating that since they did not seem to take the safety of their customers seriously she would report them to Virginia State Police truck safety division and she filed a claim with the BBB. Well she did get a refund, but it gets better, she went in January to pay my storage fee as I have been off work since December due to illness and she used her Visa check card, it accepted the payment but the computer spit out a piece of paper stating that her business was no longer wanted by UHaul. She called the number and asked why she was told by a very rude rep that since you made a complaint you are no longer welcome at Uhaul and hung up on her. Ok fine...then on Friday March 30th, 2007, like I said having been out of work, my unit was in arrears and they were going to put it in auction I told the rep Renee Wych I would be in by the end of the month on March 23, well on Friday I called to see how much I needed to bring it current I was told that the bill had been paid I asked how and she said by credit card, I told her I did not have a credit card on file, she looked it up and said well it was the same one used in January...I said that was my daughters card, and she replied that "well I did it because you weren't returning my phone calls" that to me is an intimadation tactic plus the illegal use of my daughter's credit card without her authorization. So I called my daughter and she called them and voiced her opinion very loudly and we found out we could press criminal charges. They did today finally refund her card but after she called and told them once again the money had to be in her account or it was going to cause overdrafts and make her late on her rent. Then they acted like it was no big deal apparently they don't take the law seriously as I also found out that (UHaul has to have an alternate contact number so they had a friend of mine on recort) they not only called her Renee Wych divulged all of my information to her, how much was owed, that it was going to auction, and that I had better get hold of them immediately. Plus I found out that this was not the first time she had done this but my friend let it go since as I stated earlier in this I have been out of work since December with severe anemia and a heart condition. Bill collectors are only supposed to contact a third party to find out a phone number or another way to contact the second party they are not really supposed to contact them once and they are not supposed to divulge any confidential information, I have heard many other complaints and I feel something really needs to be done about Uhaul fradulent and unfair practices
