Network Solutions Complaints

Class Action Filed, FTC Action, Web Hosting Service Complaints

  • Class Action Case. "Florida resident Chris McElroy has launched a class action lawsuit against Network Solutions LLC and the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), alleging Network Solutions 'immediately registers for itself any domain name that consumers provide to Network Solutions in order to determine whether the domain name is available.'" Link (Story dated Feb 27, 2008.) The allegation appears to be that Network Solutions conspires with ICANN to block users who search for domain names on the Network Solutions site from then registering said domain name with a cheaper competitor such as GoDaddy.
  • FTC Action. "The settlement, made public Wednesday by the FTC, concludes the FTC's investigation into VeriSign for alleged deceptive marketing practices. Under the settlement, Network Solutions is prohibited from falsely stating that a domain is about to expire, or that a domain name transfer is a renewal. VeriSign must also pay consumers who fell prey to the alleged scheme under terms of a class action lawsuit settled previously." Link (Story dated September 24, 2003.)
  • Web Hosting Complaints. "A couple of months ago, several of (Network Solution's) servers crashed, and our website was down for over 2 weeks before we were allowed to upload it." Link. Another complaint--"First, Network Solutions sold me the wrong package. Their Advanced Unix package, for some reason, did not meet my needs. * * * I had to wait almost two days for Network Solutions to generate a new CSR and another two or three days for the certificate installation!" Link.
