Credit Card Protection Agency, Inc. Deception

$3.25 Check Comes With Hidden Strings

  • Post your own comment.
  • My complaint. Last week, my wife received what appeared to be a check in the amount of $3.25. It purported to be from the "Preferred Carholder Division, New Visa® and MasterCard® Department". The front of the envelope in which the check was mailed stated in big bold letters: "Rebate Check Enclosed". A corporate emblem on the left-hand side of the check contains the name "Credit Card Protection Agency, Inc." There was no notation on the check that it came with any strings attached. One may have assumed that it was some sort of refund for payments made upon his or her existing credit card.

My wife considered cashing it but asked me to look at it first. When I read the fine print on the back side of the check, it states "Please enroll me as a Preferred member of the Credit Card Protection Agency * * * for the low annual fee of $89". In my opinion, the mailing my wife received of an offer for "credit card protection" disguised as a credit card refund check was deceptive. I am sure many innocent people out there cashed the $3.25 check and were later presented with a bill for $89.

On this message board, a poster identified as "southbound" reports the following:
I also recieved a check. I assumed (silly me) that it was from my new cc company as they offer rebates (or rewards, however they word it) for purchases. I cashed it and didn't give it a second thought (except for 'cool- $3'). Now I have recieved the packet (almost 2 mos. later) telling me that the rebate check I cashed has been processed and my protection service is in full effect, wth. They are urging me to send in the enclosed credit report release & credit card registration form, which is not going to happen of course, but how do I know what charges I already unwittingly agreed to, and how would I stop it. Do they have my actual cc # already? They act like they do-(listing my cc account on the form like so-( xxxxxx ). Sad.
I have no idea what service is provided under "credit card protection" offered by this company; however, I suspect it is similar to services that the FTC has ruled to be fraudulent. See FTC Acts to Stop Credit Card "Protection" Fraud (case involving Universal Marketing Services, Inc.).

If you have a problem with the credit card protection program offered by Credit Card Protection Agency, Inc., please feel free to post your information to this page.
