DTV4PC Complaints

Alleged Not To Honor 30 Day Refund

DTV4PC. I received a spam email this morning (1-15-08) trumpeting DTV4PC which bills itself as "digital television for your PC". No monthly fee, only 1 time fee of $29.99. Further states the ad: "Watch 1,056 live channels on your PC!" Very rare for something that sounds so good to be true. Here is a link to their web site. There is a CNN demo running on their home page. Basically, you're supposed to be able to download software and view all these channels. Some comments plucked from the web are given below. I have no idea whether these are truthful allegations, just reporting having read these comments on the web:
  • "Picture quality is crap. It's only as good as the videos you'd see posted on cnn.com. They look ok in a small window but at full screen they are horrible. I was tempted by a one time payment for lots of free commercial channels (I was thinking basic cable via the web) but sadly the old axiom rings true. If it seems too good to be true it probably is. Save your $30." Comments of cdwilliams1
  • DTV4PC is just a Scam my husband got it & they won't refund. Comments of Sherae
  • DTV4PC is not a ripoff. It's actually alot better than some of the other Satellite TV software out there (which really don't use satellites - go figure). The channel updates, on demand links and other bonuses are pretty cool in addition to helping you find stuff you otherwise would never have found in the first place. Comments of aaronmedia
  • "So in summary, what is available that the average person might have heard of? Well CNN, Bloomberg, CSPAN, CNBC, NASA TV, ESPN (if it ever works) and BBC. The interesting finds I found? Pretty slim. The Earth Channel and Backyard Wrestling Network were kind of fun. So it boils down to, would you pay $29.95 for a Windows-only program that would allow you to watch low-quality versions of these channels on your PC?" Product review.
  • "I’ve only had it for one day, but so far I’m happy. I’ve been doing without cable for several months since I’ve moved, and don’t pick up any channels at all, so I’ve been getting by with Netflix and computer news. I miss CNN and other news programs, and this seems to work well for my needs." Emichel comment attached to product review
  • DTV4PC IS RUBBISH. I brought it and was sucked in by a Bullshit company who won't honor their 30 day Guarantee, they won't even answer your text's if you ask for a refund. Comments of neway.
Mixed reviews. It appears video quality and connectivity are issues. Also, the company appears to have over-hyped what the product actually delivers. But the biggest concern is the alleged failure to honor the 30-day money back guaranty. The company that sells this software is 3B Software, Inc. Here is their report from the Better Business Bureau. According to the BBB, 3B Software has had several customer complaints but has resolved a high enough percentage of these complaints to retain a "satisfactory record". Take it for what it's worth.
