Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Liposuction
Question 3

Question: Is there a way to have liposuction or fat removed from the arms going under the armpit with a small incision rather than all the way down the arm? Also, can you make small incisions along the middle of the back to remove fat from the upper back and lower back?

Response: Liposuction of the arms can be performed using an armpit incision. However, if your problem is one of a combination of excess skin and fat tissue, liposuction alone will not solve the problem. Liposuction relies upon your skin's ability to shrink after the fat is removed, whether from your arms, back or any other area of your body. Yes, it can be removed from your back as well, but your skin may not shrink to where you want it to be. The best way to get answers to your questions for your individual situation is with a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can outline all your options along with the risks and benefits of each.
