Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Face Lift
Question 9

Question: For the moment I am in Belgium, soon back to my family in Kansas. I had an S-lift in Belgium and it appears the plastic surgeon used the wrong vertical pull vector. I think she lifted more then 5 cms. (more then 2 inches) My face is distorted. Is it possible to have new surgery to correct this problem, it is now 3.5 months and no improvement. What if there is not enough skin left, the sutures are inside the ear upon the tragus, so what with that if new surgery is possible? Is there any possible solution ? Thanks.

Response: This is a very difficult problem to correct since you may not have enough skin to rotate into position in a more reasonable vector. Sometime, a midface lift through a coronal incision may allow for proper rotation, or, at least, to have a vertical vector in the midface and reduce the amount of tension that the skin is experiencing in a lateral and upward vector. Bring the operative report with you to the plastic surgeon that you see back home so that he/she can determine if anything was done to the SMAS layer and if this might allow you some correction.
