Question:
Hi, I just turned 44 and noticed fine lines on my upper lip and have pretty deep laugh lines. Is this normal for my age? What is the best procedure to fix the lines?

Response: Hi
Unfortunately, the lines you describe can show up at any age based on genetics (you can thank your parents for your wrinkles!), sun exposure, smoking and your general health. We tend to lose fat in our faces, especially noticeable around the mouth, cheeks and eyes. Volume restoration and skin tightening can do wonders for relatively little downtime. Around the mouth, a filler such as Juvederm, Restylane or Radiesse can volumize the fine and deeper laugh lines, eliminating or significantly smoothing them. Skin care, such as prescription-strength tretinoin, can tighten the skin and maintain your youth. Sunblock, smoking avoidance and a good diet are a must. Finally, procedures such as dermabrasion, chemical peels or lasers can smooth and tighten skin subtly or dramatically, depending on your desired result. Remember though that maintenance is a must- your skin will continue to age. I recommend a consult with a facial plastic surgeon and a medical aesthetician to finalize recommendations for fillers and an effective, individualized skin care routine.
Take care
