Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction
Question 53
Question: I have a connective tissue disorder resulting from Marfan Syndrome. I have always wanted breast implants and was wondering how this would effect getting them?
From: Ashley, Georgia 04/01/2008
Response: Your scarring will, likely, be widespread due to the lack of strength of scar tissue. Also, the risk of ptosis (falling of the implant and/or your own breast tissue) will be much greater. You should make certain that a test is performed on your aorta prior to the procedure to make certain that it is of proper caliber and, a strong suggestion, make certain that the implants that are used are very small ie. 150 to 200 cc.

Comment: I, too, have Marfan Syndrome and recently underwent breast augmentation. I have always had regular echocardiograms, EKGs, along with an annual CT angio. All checked out well, and I proceeded with the surgery.
I never knew that up to 200cc is what is recommended regarding the size of the implant. That would not give me the results I desired. I went to a full C cup, which was a 425cc implant.
I am doing well thus far - 20 days post op. The incisions look remarkable and are healing quite nicely. I am quite pleased and certainly hope I do not have the complications that you mentioned.
