Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction
Question 37
Question:
10 years ago I had a breast reduction since then I have lost 4 stone in weight and have visited a well known cosmetic surgery company to see weither i could have a breast uplift only to be told that I have enough breast tissue to do a reduction after having my pre-screen and booking my bed and then seeing the surgeon he has told me that it is very unlikely that he can preform this surgery due to the fact that my nipple will possibaly die, he has asked me to get my notes from my breast reduction to see what method was used, I came away feeling very unsure and disapointed as he made me feel that I wasted his time, could you tell me if its possible to have a uplift after a breast reduction?

Response: A breast lift is, essentially, the same procedure as a reduction except for the fact that no breast tissue is removed. The blood supply to your nipple and areola (the dark area around your nipple) is maintained in various ways with either a lift or a reduction. It is essential to know what that way was so that, when performing the secondary (later) procedure, the blood supply is not compromised and you end up with loss of your nipple and areola. If "standard" procedures are performed, usually, the procedure can be repeated safely, although with more more risk than the primary (first) procedure.
