Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction Question 36
Question:
It has been 3 months since my breast lift with augmentation. My plastic surgeon created a "sling" with my lift. I believe I have developed capsular contracture in my right breast. It would probably be considered a grade II, no distortion except my left breast is more relaxed therefore is a little lower. Is it too late to start massage techniques and taking vitamin E to help soften and relax my right breast?

Response: It is never too late for massage techniques as long as it is after the period of possible bleeding (which you are). I would suggest that you also talk to your plastic surgeon about the unproven but early documented help of antihistamines in helping to prevent or turn around early capsular contracture. Studies are being done with Accolate and Singular but many of us believe that over-the-counter antihistamines are effective as well. Vitamin E, to my knowledge, has never been shown to help with contracture.
