Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction
Question 35

Question: I recently just had a breast augmentation about 2 weeks ago. My doctor said that my left breast was smaller than my right and that it sat lower so he decided it would need 25ccs more than the right. Most of the swelling has gone down but there are still some bruising on my breast and my left breast is bigger than the right one. Do you think that its still swollen since there was more saline put in? Is it possible that the left will equalize with the right as I heal further?

Response: Wait and be patient.... 2 weeks after surgery is too early to judge final size and position. Frequently, asymmetrical swelling will resolve with time.
I advise my patients with minor residual swelling to wait at least 4 weeks from the day of surgery to assess the volume differences. Also, if the "larger" left breast implant is a little higher today, this can account for the differences in appearance. Keep in touch with your surgeon and have him(her) follow you along with time....
