Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction
Question 32
Question:
How do surgeons determine what size implants to use? I have 290cc. I weigh 105 and am 5'1". Is that why?
From: PS, Texas 09/27/2007
Response: The size of implants used is based upon your size, anatomy, current breast size and shape and, most importantly, the size that you desire to be. Usually, we have some form of sizer or have our patients relate size to us in a specific manner during discussions as to size. We then determine if that is possible and if it is esthetic for that person. The average size of implants have slowly gone up over the years but, as I tell my patients, all other things being equal, the more of your chest that is made up of implant and the less of your own tissues, the less and less natural your augmentation will look, feel and act.
