Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Breast Augmentation-Lift-Reduction Question 27
Question: I have borderline hyperthyroid. My T4 free is 1.7 and my T3 free is 597 I am not under any medication for it. I would like to know if this condition
will cause any complications while I am under anesthesia for breast augmentations?
Response: In an elective surgery setting I insist that a patient have a clearance from their primary care physician prior to scheduling the procedure. Lab tests, by and large, should be normal for the proper conduct of anesthesia. This is to try as best possible to keep the patient safe for this elective operation. It should all be about the patient's safety.
Editor's note: Reading the doctor's response, it appears this question should first be directed to your primary care physician who should clear you for surgery before a plastic surgeon is approached regarding breast augmentation.
