Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
Question 9
Question: Hi,
I'm White but all my life i have had an Epicanthal Fold on both eyes. I've recently at Age 25 gotten a preocedure to remove this. one eye was not pronounced that much and a Z-Epicanthoplasty the other was slightly more pronounced and a W-Epicanthoplasty was performed.
I'm delighted with the results of the Z-Epicanthoplasty as scaring is minimal and is almost completely healed to point of not noticing it after 2.5 weeks.
But the W-Epicanthoplasty seems to have gone wrong and seems almost worse than before. as it is all bunched up, I'm just wondering is this just excess scar tissue because of the extra surgey or should the healing time be similar for both porcedures?
From: RB, California 01/06/2009
Response: Often, even when the same procedure is done on two different areas, there are differences in healing. When different procedures, with different skin tensions are done, there is always a difference. Given that this was the correct the procedure and there were no problems with it, things should settle down over the next few weeks. Visit with your plastic surgeon if you have any concerns or if the scarring seems excessive after that time period.
