Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) Question 8
Question: I had blepharoplasty in 2001---then the under eye area become too hollow and the doctor transferred fat from my stomach under my eyes...7 years later and they are a mess...I have two fat pads that under certain lighting make me look like the elephant man...problem is I do not know how to search because they I do not know what to call them. They somewhat resemble what AL Pacino has....but I never had them until the doctor did this...sometimes they become so red if I hit them accidentally with my eyelash curler and stay that way for hours..It is destroying my life.

Response: These are areas where your fat grafts actually were able to live. You, essentially, have man (doctor)- made bags. You should search out a qualified plastic surgeon who should be able to resect (surgically remove) the fat pads. The problem then, of course, will be that you will be left with the hollow look of too much fat having being removed with your first procedure. There are fillers which may be able to help you in a smoother manner than the fat grafting. If there is some laxity of your lower eyelid (which can contribute to the bag), you might look into a canthopexy or lateral support as well. This may not be a good option for you since it will change the look of that area as well and this should be discussed with you prior to having that procedure performed.
