Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Abdominoplasty
Question 30
Question: I went to a doctor to have a tummy tuck and he was more interested in me having lipo with it. Im 5'10 160lbs after having 2 kids and I am 31 years old. Do you need to have lipo to have a tummy tuck?
From: m, florida 04/04/2009
Response: The direct answer to your question is you do not need to have liposuction with a tummy tuck. If you have excess skin and fat in the tummy, a tuck alone will often give excellent results. Tradionally, the flank area, just to the side of the hips, is suctioned at the same time to give a better curve to the hips. Sometimes lipo can be done on the top part of the tummy as well, but this adds risk to the operation, and many surgeons will not do it at the same time. If you are not comfortable with the surgical option presented during your consultation, you should get another opinion by a ABPS board certified plastic surgeon.
