Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Abdominoplasty
Question 26
Question: I have approximately 20-30 pounds in my abdomen area. I have tried to lose the weight but i am unable to exercise because of a lot of back pain, sciatica, and fibromyalgia. I am also on anti-depressant medicines that have made it more difficult( impossible) to lose. Please help. Thanks, Lisa

Response: Lisa,
If your fat is between your muscle layer and your skin, it is possible that liposuction may be able to "jump-start" you on your road to weight loss, however, there is very little weight loss or medical benefit achieved through liposuction. Only your plastic surgeon can advise you on whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure. If you are not, you may benefit from looking into strict weight loss programs such as Medifast or Weight Watchers.
