Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Abdominoplasty
Question 18

Question: I have an umbilical hernia and want to get a full tummy tuck. Do I have to have both procedures done at the same time? I don't have all the time I need right now to take off the tummy tuck but I don't want to fixing the hearia first to stop me from getting my tummy tuck later.

Response: Fixing the hernia will not alter your ability to have a tummy tuck later. It simply makes more sense, as long as your surgeon is comfortable with both procedures, to do both at the same time since you are having very similar areas operated on - especially if some tightening of the rectus muscle is being performed with your tummy tuck.
