Question 17

Question: I just had a mini tuck and breast implants about 2 1/2 months ago. I don't even notice that much differnce at all in my tummy. I wasn't all that big to begin with, but now I have the scar and still about the same lower belly I had before. Went to the Doc. he said he didn't like it and thought I had Edema, this is 2 1/2 months after the operation. He never put me in a garment when it was first done and now he wants me to wear one now for a month non stop. question is, will this help wearing this and I still have flabby skin real bad will that tighten up after the Edema is gone? He said if it don't go away we may have to do lipo. Does that sound right to do if it don't go away? And would this be something I should have to pay for if I have to do lipo?

Response: A mini tummy tuck, mainly, takes care of tightening the muscle of the abdomen that was stretched - usually with pregnancy. The length of the incision determines the amount of skin that has been removed. If the incision is only a few inches long, next to no skin was removed. It may be that you have swelling but, possibly, you may have a seroma or collection of fluid under the skin. You should have this possibility investigated by your surgeon. If your belly button was not moved (which is the main difference between the full and mini tummy tuck as well as the amount of skin removed, you will have only a slight difference in the amount of skin remaining after the procedure compared with before). Many people like the idea of a "mini" tuck but want a "maxi" result which is not the way that surgery works. If you have fat excess, neither a mini nor a maxi tummy tuck will be effective since they mainly take care of muscle and skin. Liposuction may be the answer for you if you have a seroma but it will not help loose skin. If you needed it before the surgery you should have known about it but, there is no reason that I can see why you would not have to pay for liposuction now since it is not something which was done in the first place. Do not look to the liposuction to help with your loose skin - if that is your main problem.

Comment: I had a mini tuck because that's what my Doc. told me I needed. A full one was not nessesary he said. I told him I wanted to get rid of that fat roll which was mostely fat buildup and loose skin and I'm sure my muscle was stretch from having kids. My scar is about 7 1/2 inches long. I didn't realize a mini tuck was just working on the muscle. I would of never traded that scar just for a tight muscle with fat and loose skin stil covering it. What happens in my case when he told me just the mini tuck is all I need and my results are no better? Please know I'm not trying to be hard on you, just upset with my results. I do thank you for your help!!
