Ask a Plastic Surgeon / Abdominoplasty
Question 15

Question: Although I am not a candidate for a tummy tuck presently, my question is can you tighten the weakened abdominal muscles through the belly button to minimize scarring?
From: tm, hawaii 02/14/2008

Response: No, the results of that procedure are, at best, minimal unless you have a true hernia. For tightening the length of the abdominal muscles, a short incision in the pubis (like that for a c-section) is used when there is no extra skin to be removed and tightening of the rectus muscles is all that is needed. This is often termed a mini-abdominoplasty.
