Question:
Can a physician in Nevada operate as a straightforward LLC, or must they operate as the available professional LLC (PLLC), and what would be the difference between the two, save for the name?
Response: If a physician is forming an LLC to operate his or her medical practice, then you are required to operate as a PLLC as opposed to the standard LLC in Nevada. All the standard rules for LLCs apply to PLLCs with a few differences found at NRS 89.030, et alia. The main difference is that all members of a PLLC must "be authorized to perform the professional service for which the professional entity is organized." See NRS 89.040(1). You'll find the forms for formation of a Nevada PLLC on this page of the NV Secretary of State's web site.
