Question: I got my greencard in Dec. 2002. But I moved to the US permanently in Sept 2003. When do I become eligible to apply for US citizenship?
From: Udaya, Delaware 06/22/2008

Response: The waiting period between attaining green card and eligibility to file for citizenship depends on your circumstances. Generally, it is either three years (for those married to a US citizen) or five years for all others. See this table (middle of the page) for more information. If your question is whether the clock starts from December 2002 or September 2003 due to physically being outside of the country, I won't comment on that issue other than to point out that September 2008 (i.e., 5 year anniversary) is fast approaching. You'll need to take the specific facts to an immigration attorney for review and an opinion.
