Question: I would like to know whether I have to renew my green card if it expires while waiting to take the oath.(I passed the interview but 2.5 years later I am still waiting for the background ckeck the clear so they can call me for the oath). Thank you.

Response: Hello Ovidiu-

It is unfortunate that the naturalization checks are taking so long. They're trying to shorten them but that may not help you at this point. I would go ahead and renew your green card simply because you're required by Federal law to have valid identification. You do have the possibility that your naturalization may happen before you get your card, but better safe than sorry on this issue.
